Citizens communication is next. This is to give residents an opportunity to address the court on any matter not on the agenda for up to a full three minutes. Sharon cox is first. Bob van is second.
>> I'm Karen cox, and executive director of casa Travis County. And actually what I had to say concerns number 19, so would you prefer I come back then?
>> we'd prefer you come back then. We'll get to 19 real soon. How's that? Bob van? Ms. Mcafee is third, and you're here on number 18. We will get to that real soon also, okay?
>> Commissioners, judge, I'm bob van, constable, precinct 2, and I'm here to relay some very pleasant news to read to you that occurred after recently held state convention of the justice of the peace and constable's association that was held in houston. I have with me sergeant george reynolds, deputy constable with my office. And i'd like to read what he brought home from houston with him. It's a plaque that begins deputy of the year, presented to george reynolds, in recognition of your contribution to your community, your office and the association, your endeavors have enhanced the image of the position of deputy constable and have earned the respect and appreciation of your peers. Awad -- awarded by the justice of the peace and constable's association, 2004. And I understand this is just the 10th one that's been awarded by the association. And I wanted y'all to know that it is now owned by a Travis County deputy constable.
>> congratulations. [ applause ] I'm glad you earned that by actions rather than speaking.
>> I'm an instructor with the justice of the peace and con strabl association. I've been teaching deputy constable's civil law for a number of years. And I believe that education has been the key to constable's becoming more professional throughout the years. I believe that the educational process has helped us a whole lot. It's helped our image and helped us do our job. Because of my being involved in that, I believe that's probably one of the main reasons I was lucky enough to win this award. And it's a statewide award and it's a goal of mine i've had all my life every since I got into law enforcement 33 years ago, and it's sort of life -- it's just capped the whole career, if you know what I mean. Thank you very much.
>> congratulations. And constable van also was a constable of the year, so you're in good company.
>> thank you.
