View captioned video.

Citizens communication is next. This item is to give residents an opportunity to address the court on any matter not on the agenda for up to a full 3 minutes. Judge judy kasrek and judge judy p. Medina have signed in together. And they are here with others.
>> explain what is going on with the probation department and we're always here to ask for money from the criminal courts and I’m here to tell you something good going on this morning. I’m cojudge of the do the right thing project. And through the hard work of chief medina and a great group of probation officers, who are on our committee, who are also here and i'll introduce them in a moment, they have gone into the schools for 7th and 8th graders into our middle schools and challenged the students to write papers on how to prevent violence, how violence has affected their life and what they can do to prevent violence. This year we had 1800 students take the challenge, and I’m here today to bring one of our winners, this is jose ibara. This is jose jr., Jose jr. And jose the third. Winner of 1800 student, quite an honor. Chief medina is here along with cynthia knox who is the teacher of the winning student from c.f.o.ing on the middle school. Her student was the female winner an shy was at a sports camp and unable to be here. I want to introduce our committee, juarez, castillo, and cunningham, they also worked very hard with the schools. As chief medina has put it, had is the pure form of prevention that we can do and it's a great outreach for our juvenile probation department to go into our schools an interact with these students. It helps them by reading the papers understand what our students are facing in the schools today. It's a great program, we won't take up much of your time but we did want to tell you about what is going on. We have a plaque for your support, for all the support that you have given us through this project an chief medina will take over now.
>> thank you, judge. Good morning, and thank you for the opportunity to present this morning and we are in fact very proud to be a part of the do the right thing ever in Travis County. To the school, to the many people that are involved, we want to extend our appreciation and we said we want to take the opportunity this morning as well to acknowledge the support that we receive from the court regarding all of our programs and services and with that it's a real privilege for me to present the following: on behalf of the Travis County juvenile probation department, the Travis County juvenile board and in conjunction with the national campaign to stop violence, we extend our appreciation to the honorable Commissioner's court of Travis County. For all of your support and for all of your participation with the many programs that we are able to provide to the juvenile probation department. And for your participation with to do the right thing challenge program in the Travis County community. Thank you very much. We extend our heart-felt appreciation for all of your work an all of your support in all of our work.
>> thank you.
>> I would like to present this at this time. The other presentation that we would like to make is jose luis is going to present the court with a copy of the publication which includes all of the final essays that were presented by the 26 schools that parties paid. So jose luis is going to do that as well. His is at the very front as one of the finalists. Jose luis and anna garcia are going to go on to washington, d.c. And represent Travis County. Both of their writings will be published and placed in the library of congress, and we're real proud and that is happening the next month. So we're real proud they will be representing Travis County.
>> can I carry your badge? [ applause ]
>> thank you very much. Thanks for spelling my name correctly. Thank you.
>> congratulations again.
>> let me shake your hand. I didn't get a chance to shake your hand. Thank you. Congratulations.
>> still, I have to ask. Is the -- on the cover here, is this the art work...
>> yes, it is in fact that particular picture is one of the drawings that was created by one of our students at the leadership academy and so we're real proud of him as well.
>> he requested to keep it. But again, we want to thank you for your support. This program is growing and growing at double since last year the number of writings that we received and it's such a great outreach for the probation department as well as myself being a criminal district judge. Jose is going to come over to court with me and see how we in Travis County try to prevent violence over in the criminal district court. He's going to come spend the morning with me. Thank you again for all of your support.
>> thank you again.
>> great work.
>> keep up the good work.
>> we'll get some ideas for political speeches from these. [laughter]
>> anybody else for citizens communication whether you signed in or not? If so, please come forward. That is to address the court on any matter not on the agenda.
