Number 3 is to approve resolution honoring the 2004 Travis County women of distinction.
>> whoever is here to receive the resolution, please come to the table. There's five chairs. Five people.
>> anywhere. Just sit down. Just have a seat and other people can stand around.
>> this is the people's court.
>> okay, whereas women of every culture, class and ethnic background a have made historic contributions to the growth and strength of Travis County and our nation and countless recorded and unrecorded way, whereas women have play and continue to play a critical economic, cultural and social role in every aspect of life by constituting a significant portion of the labor force working inside and outside of the home. Whereas women have played a unique role throughout history by providing the majority of the volunteer labor force. Whereas women are particularly important in the establishment of early charitable philanthropic and cultural understand stowtions, whereas women of every culture class and ethnic background served as early leaders in the forefront of every major progressive social change movement. Whereas women have been leaders not own in securing their own rights of suffrage and equal opportunity but in the abolitionist movement. The emancipation movement. The peace movement an other movements which create a more fair and just society for all and whereas despite these contributions the role of women in history has been sometimes overlooked and undervalued. In the literature, teaching and study of history, and whereas the girl scouts of america have chosen the women of distinction, now therefore be it resolved that the Travis County Commissioner's court salutes violet bell, campos, betty king, quander and mildred burr ris as the 2004 Travis County women of distinction and I move approval. [ applause ] and thank you so much for letting me sponsor this item for women today.
