32. Consider and take appropriate action on request to advertise the position of executive manager of health and human services and veterans services. I put this on because we did receive from mr. Smith and -- this was at the dais when I got down here today a letter of resignation. It says that the resignation is effective June 25th, but its actually last date is June 11th. I assume that he's taking some time that he has earned off. So we are looking at a position being -- being physically vacant June 11th. I will post to basically receive the resignation next week. What I distributed this morning was what I got from human resources and those are what the last two postings of this position.

>> the first one is the job description that you approved just l.a. Year, July 1 of '03, that position as well as the other executive manager positions were classified as a part of our year to work. The pay grade on that, pay grade 32, minimum of that pay grade level as as shown there, 103604, max of course 115-5417 -- 155417. The slot, notes that are represented at the bottom of the page will indicate that the slot -- this similar slot as well as your other executive managers is green circled and is currently at a level of 101.63.
>> two or three observe vision, I think what we do with this may well turn in part on what happens may 15th on the election. Second is rather than trying to do this in court, it seems to me that a subcommittee of the court should work with human resources to try to come up with an appropriate -- with an appropriate job description, either use one of these or a new one and then post the position. My guess that is we probably should allow ourselves the 30-day posting. Give ourselves, what, 30 days for applications to -- to flow in. Seems to me that it will take six to eight weeks to fill a position. Unless we downgrade it substantially. And the problem with that is that I would think that -- that even if the hospital district passes with the transition effort coming up, for the next couple of years, I really see this position as being necessary to Travis County. For one thing is that a whole lot of the health services will not be transferred to the hospital district even if approved initially. E.m.s., Star flight, the whole human services effort we do, pull the health piece out. I don't know that we can clean [indiscernible] 100% of it, but so it's hard for me to see us getting around filling this job, even if we later decide we can downgrade it. I mean, I think that will probably be a couple years later. So who on the court wants to work on this?
>> if he with do it this -- if we do it this week, I can do it this week. Unless we move our subcommittee to the beach, I doubt south padre island when we are down there for the conference next week.
>> I think with may 15th being this close, I would wait until after that, I think.
>> meet and you south padre, we can work on it down there. We got a conference, sorry y'all, we are trying to maximize our -- our efforts here.
>> we are volunteering for that.
>> it may be that we are -- we are communicating by e-mail or phone or whatever in terms of making it -- a conference call because we will be -- down there for a conference.
>> unless you want to come.
>> there you go.
>> why not? [laughter] good idea to me.
>> I think -- one of my initial things is that we are going to figure out how to handle the fact when we do reclass this slot is green circled. For us to say this is the minimum pay but it's going to be less, if it's going to be less, we ought to be up front and say it's going to be less. Otherwise we are going to be creating issues with three other managers who are in the same situation of being green circled. The other thing is just this -- this craziness under fiscal and environmental factors of -- I don't ever remember stephen ever having to lift or carry up to 25 pounds and this here in terms of you are subject to, I love this, standing, sitting, walking, climbing stair, bending, strooping, crouching, neiling, pushing -- kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, balancing, repetitive, squatting --
>> can we trust the subcommittee to do the right thing.

>> it's just --
>> standard -- [multiple voices]
>> without objection we will proceed in that direction.
