A 2 is to declare a proclamation declaring March 14th through 20th 2004 as agriculture week in Travis County. This asks all of the counties in the state of Texas to basically honor this week and honor our ag produces. Reads whereas March 14th through 20th 2004 is national agriculture week in Texas, as proclaimed by the agriculture Commissioner susan combs, whereas agriculture starts with the growing and harvesting of food and fibe and ends with almost everything we eat, wear and use, whereas we all must appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable food, horticulture and fiber supply now and for years to come. Whereas increased agriculture and nutrition allows us to make healthier food choices for ourselves and for our families. Whereas Texas agriculture produces wholesome, nutritious foods that give us a multitude of healthy menu choices and access to fresh meat, grains and produce. Whereas the lone star state leads the nation in the number of farms and ranches with almost 80% of the land involved in some form of agriculture production, including livestock, crops, aquaculture, horticulture and forestry, goes on and on and says other outstanding things about ag production in the state of Texas. And as a former employee of the Texas agriculture department, this of course hit home for me. It says now therefore be it resolved that the Travis County Commissioners court, 2004, national agriculture week. In Travis County and be it further resolved that the Commissioners court urges all residents to learn more about the role of agriculture, share that knowledge with the youth and recognize the farmers, ranchers and their families who contribute so much to this county, this state, this nation and the world and I move approval.
>> second.
>> and I may also have to say that Travis County is one of the few counties that still has quite a bit of ag production and farmers, ranchers, and their families and also I guess ag land. So this is timely for us. Any more discussion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. We will send it to our ag Commissioner.
