Number 2 is a public hearing to discuss request to temporarily close portions of bratton lane, grand avenue parkway, long vista drive and wells port drive on Sunday, may 30, 2004, from 6:00 a.m. Until 1:00 p.m., In order to hold the iron kids triathlon series.
>> move that the public hearing be opened ?
>> second.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> well, I think the agenda wording is pretty straightforward. They've had this triathalon on a number of previous years. And this is to close the -- the streets for the race. The race is from 6:00 a.m. To 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, may 30th. The purpose of today's public hearing is to receive any testimony with regard to the temporary closure.
>> I think that we have somebody here.
>> I would like to [indiscernible]
>> my name is arturo quintanilla, I run a business located in the 2300 grand avenue parkways, suites 106 through 103. And we work Monday through Sunday, our customers demand that service. I was just wondering what are the portions of bratton lane, grand avenue parkway, long vista that are going to be closed that day just to make sure that my trailers are going to be able to get in and out of my location to supply my customers.
>> okay.
>> do we need to recess this let you get with him.
>> probably be a good idea.
>> anybody else to give testimony during this public hearing? Move to close the public hearing.
>> second.
>> recessed.
>> recessed. Move tbe recessed.
>> let's recess for 10 minutes.
>> okay.
>> how is that.
>> all right.
>> give you an opportunity to chat with this gentleman.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. We will call that back up in approximately 10 minutes.

>> (item 2 continued)
>> we recessed item no. 2 the public hearing, I move to reopen.
>> second.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> judge. We asked that the court recess this item until this afternoon. Unfortunately mr. Equipment quint's business is right in the middle of our site. We will be shipping on Sunday unlike in previous years. His clients have begun to operate on Sunday. He's going to call his clients to find out if there's some arrangements to -- to maneuver around the race. So -- so we need a little more time to see if we can accommodate his business.
>> generally speaking, also when we talk about 6:00 a.m. To 1:00 p.m. It's sporadic in terms of people coming through for these triathalons. I regularly have our neighborhood shut down because of the motorola triathalon, the half and the full triathalon. It's important rad dick. It -- sporadic. It doesn't mean the traffic is completely shut down and you can't move for five hours. But your concerns are absolutely warranted, if we need more time to work through this, then --
>> I think mr. Quintanilla has been in touch with the race director and the race director expressed some concern about any type of intervention during the race because of the age of the kids that were racing. So we are in contact, looking for solutions, but right now I cannot tell the court that we have a solution yet.
>> you think that you will have one this afternoon.
>> I --
>> 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. This afternoon.
>> move we recess this item.
>> second.
>> if we can't get this resolved today, this is something that has to happen today. We will work towards a resolution, we don't get it done we will recess this item until next week if we don't have a resolution by the end of today's meeting.
>> would you like --
>> call it back up at 1:45, is that too early? I don't know how long we will be in court today. We should not be in court much longer than 1:45.
>> if we don't have an answer back by 145, go ahead and roll this one more week and we will address it next Tuesday then.
>> we will call it back up at 1:45. Motion to recess to 1:45, okay?
>> thank you.
>> thank you.
>> any more discussion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. That means that we will delay action on number 17 also.
>> okay.
we will come back to 25.
>> number 2, joe did work out with mr. Quintanilla --
>> we need to call back to order that public hearing.
>> I don't know that we need the public hearing back to order if we take up number 25.
>> that's fine.
>> I don't think there's any reason -- we'll just indicate there's no need to -- that was the only person that indicated that he wanted to give comment. The action item is 17. And 17 is consider and take appropriate action on request to temporarily close portions of brat ton lane, grand avenue park way, long vista drive and wells port drive on Sunday, may 30, 2004, from 6:00 a.m. Until 1:00 p.m. In order to hold the iron kids triathlon series. [inaudible] and said that he was able to talk with his client and on Saturday before the race he will get a list of items to be shipped [indiscernible] ahead of time. He has also secured storage areas for his product away from the race. So he will be basically getting all his stuff done on Saturday before the race on Sunday. So he felt that with those arrangements made with his clients, he was okay with the road closure at that point. He will be able to conduct business on Sunday in spite of the race.
>> questions or comments?
>> given those assurances, move approval.
>> second.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. I move that we close -- actually on number 2 we conducted the public hearing, heard from everybody that wanted to give testimony. There was only one person, mr. Quintanilla. There was no reason on number 2. We've acted on 17, the ax item. Are you here for the public hearing?
>> my name is stan tucker. I'm a local voluntary for the event.
>> in that case, let's do call back the public hearing number 2 to discuss request to temporarily close portions of brat ton lane, grand avenue park way, long vista drive and wells port drive. Yes, sir.
>> thank you for letting me be here. You know, the purpose of the road closures is obviously the safety of the kids, and we'll have between 300 and 500 7- to 14-year-old kids on the road that day. Sharing those roads with cars or 18 wheelers in the case of mr. Quintanilla won't work. Iron kids, who have been conducting these races around the country for 20 years would refuse to hold the event. I know that's none of your concern, but it would kill the event if we had to open the roads to vehicles. So i'll answer any questions you might have about iron kids or about the event itself. The wells branch m.u.d. Has been a wonderful host for that event. We do a lot of things with that community to market the event to all the kids in that community and actually around the city we work with aisd, we'll use Travis County off-duty sheriffs for the event. We'll have conversations with the e.m.s. Of Travis County and jill mulis I believe is the man's name who we've worked with, and we try to be a good neighbor and hold a great event for kids. It's been successful the last two years.
>> questions, comments?
>> just a heads up, we are going to be -- this isn't that -- okay, different section of grand avenue. It's the praofl part we have a construction -- Pflugerville -- never mind.
>> move the public hearing be closed.
>> second.
>> that passes by unanimous vote. Thank you very much.
