Item 5
5. Introduction of neil cable, public works director, to Commissioners court by the transportation and natural resources department. Executive director.
>> yes, it is my pleasure, joe gieselman, transportation natural resource department to introduce to you neil cable and welcome him back to Austin, Texas. He did undergraduate work at the university of minnesota where he received his undergraduate degree in civil engineering. He went on to the university of Texas and completed his master's degree of science and engineering. Part of his master's thesis is now incorporated into national design standards on pavement. He did some work on prestressed concrete. And it's that -- at work right now on Texas highways. So the first 20 years of his experience was in the private sector. Working as a project engineer, project manager, through -- with various consultant firms throughout the southwest. Including hdr engineering, black and veech and gun and campbell consulting and then at one point he started his own company and did private consulting for them for five years. After that he went into the public sector and has since worked for municipalities in oklahoma, arkansas and kansas. He comes to us directly from the city of wichita, kansas where he was a public works director. So he has a good blend of both private and public experience. For Travis County he will be picking up the capital improvements projects and the roads, drainage, parks and things that we have [indiscernible] authorization, including perhaps some of the c.o. Projects and other special projects by the department. So he is licensed to practice in Texas, arkansas, kansas and iowa. So with that I welcome him.
>> welcome.
>> welcome.
>> we are glad that you are here.
>> I'm very pleased to be here. And my family and I are very pleased to return to central Texas. I can say that it's changed significantly since we left in the mid '80's. Travis County has grown a lot. So I look forward to working with you and serving the citizens of Travis County.
>> all right. Great.
>> thank you. Look forward to working with you.
