Number 2 is a resolution. 2. Approve proclamation recognizing the late gerrell bernell jones for outstanding community service to the citizens of Travis County. Anybody here to receive this? Okay. Come forward, ms. Turner. And company. Let me read the proclamation it says whereas the millennium youth entertainment complex was constructed for a safe place for youth to have fun with their peers and be a tangible symbol of hope and peace in the community, whereas gerrell bernell jones designed the official logo that presently adorns the complex depicting the silhouette of two people embracing and exempt firing his hope that people will -- exempt flying his hope that -- he also demonstrated community activism by joining bck, a group of concerned young men and women wrappers with a mission of striving to overpower negative influences in their lives and whereas in tribute to his life and the numerous contributions he made to Travis County, a commemorative program will be held to honor gerrell bernell jones on December 31st, 2003. On what would have been his 26th birthday. Now therefore be it resolved that we the members of the Travis County Commissioners court do here by proclaim Wednesday, December 31st, 2003, as gerrell bernell jones day in Travis County. And encourage all residents of Travis County to join in recognition of the memory of this outstanding individual who left us at a very young age.
>> he left us at a very young age, but he did so much while he was there. I think he can be such an inspiration to our young people in the community, he was a fantastic young man. He was a very religious young man. He spent a lot of time in the community, at the church. Bringing young men. A fantastic young man. I think just us doing this for -- he was known to us as g.g. He was one of my students in my activist training, you know. So this has really affected me a lot. I have his family here, tommy jones and his brother, what is your name? Timothy jones. And this is the baby. His baby.
>> that's your little bobbie.
>> you know. But I would really encourage people to come out on the 31st and -- at the millennium entertainment center at 3:00 p.m. We are going to have an unveiling. I would like young people to come in and get to know more and more about g.g. Those that don't know him, which is very few, you know, but I just feel like now the way things are, we have to recognize these kids when -- we got to make a difference, okay? And I think by what we are trying to do, some of the others will look at that and say, well, I can do that, too. Maybe -- because we don't know, ain't nobody promised to us. We don't know where we are going. But I think he's such an example for our young people and I just want to everybody please come out and recognize this young man.
>> I didn't know him, but I have heard nothing but positive things about him.
>> that's exactly right. I want to recognize him. I want to thank you all for doing this, the proclamation for him and hope y'all will join us on the 31st at 3:00 p.m. At the millennium. All in favor --
>> move approval.
>> sorry.
>> move approval.
>> second. Whatever. You guys. I just wanted to say that I was watching the replay at the Austin city council meeting from this past weekend I was very pleased to see the city council did a similar recognition, I did not know this young man, but from everything that i've heard he seemed to be an extraordinary person.
>> he was, he really was.
>> at the funeral home there was a lot of young folks expressing their concerns on his demise. He was an outstanding leader.
>> yes.
>> and we -- we are going to really miss him. Because he was a very outstanding individual. Thank you all for bring it to our attention. We really appreciate you letting us know about it, keep us posted on what's going on, thank you so much for that recognition.
>> oh, thank you all and he was extremely special to me and I want to make sure that he's not forgotten.
>> exactly.
>> you know. Thank you all so much.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. [indiscernible] proclamation --
>> I want all of them.
>> what's the little baby's name? What's the little baby's name?
>> [inaudible - no mic]
>> you know Commissioner Daugherty there.
>> he's new, but I watch you all.
>> I can believe it. [laughter] [inaudible - no mic]
