Item 22

22 is to consider and give direction to effective parties, especially sawyer vending services, on schedule for renovation of the first floor of the historic county courthouse.
>> judge, we did have our meeting last week. There was a lack of clarity what was going on on the first floor of sawyer, et cetera, et cetera. And we uncovered that there was a little less clarity related to the law library, about where it is or is not. And so judge dietz and roger and jim barr and I are going to meet again this Friday to get total clarity. But in terms of what is the scope of this agenda item, everyone is fully aware that things are happening on the first floor. And we are trying to get locked down square footage who does what. Sawyer is absolutely aware that they are a player in this and they know we will work cooperatively with them troeltd the cafeteria. They've even agreed that they would go to a smaller -- i'll call it suite. They are switch togs a more wellness friendly, judge, of going to more of a deli style, so they don't need as much space. They also mentioned as we got from the survey, that most people are doing take-out. So they don't need as much space as well. So I think in terms of the intent, that if everybody is understanding something is happening on the first floor, you bet. But do we have locked down yet exact square footage and who is going where, it's going to be helpful for us to meet again this Friday with judge dietz because apparently now there's a piece related to the civil courts that's back in play again.
>> do we need to put this item on some other time?
>> what do you think, ropblg senator because we're not -- roger? We're not locking down the blueprint.
>> the reason this got on here was sawyer came to me and asked me what the future holds for him. Whether he ought to plan to start moving, and if so, when. This item is for us to tell him that. If we're not ready today, we'll very next week. If we need two weeks, we'll say November 25th. I promised him I would come to court and ask what the schedule is.
>> sounds like what I'm hearing is they are a player.
>> they weren't a player then because we were making decisions and he was not involved. He came because he was confused about his plans.
>> he's included --
>> his big operation is in the historic courthouse. If that goes away, this goes away. It impacts us dramatically, I think, from a county employee perspective. And also our customers who use the historic building over there. But if we're going to do this, we need to have some rough idea of what schedule we're on. All he's asking is that he be told. And so the question today though is are we ready to tell him or do we need another week or two?
>> I think it's -- well, in terms of the precise place he's going, I think we need a week or two. And I would suggest that we pull this and put it back on as opposed to it just being a roll thing. But are we talking about is he going to be in the courthouse? Absolutely. And he knows that it's going to be spring time in terms of when things are --
>> so we don't need this again.
>> I don't think so.
>> he's going to be in the courthouse.
>> if I may just add to the schedule, judge, you were asking, we plan to bring to the court in about -- and within one month the program and the preliminary design for the courthouse first floor. And we are -- it's on our schedule to start construction on the first floor in the month of may. But first we need to give the plan also so we can move forward with the design.
>> sawyer is absolutely in the building and working cooperatively. We might even -- identified a better space for him. It's got windows.
>> I think the preliminary on the southwest corner which has lots of windows.
>> keep him involved.
>> absolutely.
>> and if we need this again, let us know. And if he comes back to me next time, put it back on.
>> I would suggest he get put on the c.c. List when this is brought back in terms of approving the schematic designs to make sure they are absolutely aware that the court is doing that.
>> absolutely.
>> thank you
