Item 23
23. Consider and take appropriate action on the following: a. Proposed amendment to the Travis County code, chapter 10, peace officer pay scale (pops) policy 10.0295; and. B. Request to approve fy 04 peace officer pay scale (pops), per budget rules appendices.
>> yes, judge. I think this will be a very brief item. The court did take action on the pop scale during the budget process. It is and was approved in the budget rules and you adopted the date. I do not have it before you -- before me, but in this manual. We are bringing you today the written policy that coincides with the decisions that the court made to -- to eliminate oh, to eliminate the automatic salary adjustment, p.b.o. Can speak to that if there's a need. Also to indicate the departments will offer skills based pay, based upon their ability to pay out of their current budget. And there was one other change that -- that h.r. And some had mentioned the need to create a policy so that we would not be coming to the court annually to change the actual policy, but that the pops scale would be addressed in the budget process annually. And included within that document. So we are asking today for the court to approve the amended policy chapter 10, 10.0295 and also to formally approve the fy '04 pops pay scale as you have already or as it is included in the budget rules.
>> linda, if I -- this is for clarity so somebody going back will say okay, got it, clear. How is the pay scale that the actual scale itself, how is it different from a scale from last year so that someone would know other than reading in our minutes and seeing in the policy that it's not an automatic. What did we change so that I could call that to somebody's attention of well, look right here.
>> the line that there used to be two lines there, one for year and one for pay grade across the top. The year line has been eliminated therefore it's just the pay grade.
>> when it says step, step just means step, it doesn't mean year where somebody would have the impression of another year, therefore I bump over.
>> exactly.
>> or ask you for ratification.
>> thank you.
>> any more discussion?
>> judge, I would move approval.
>> second.
>> for both a and b.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. Approval of both a and b.
>> thank you.
>> thank you very much.
>> thank you.
