2. Approve resolution encouraging all residents to support "lights on afterschool!" On October 9, 2003. And the resolution reads -- anybody here to receive this one?
>> yes.
>> okay. Come forward.
>> thank you, [laughter]
>> have a seat out there.
>> it reads: whereas the citizens of Travis County stand firmly committed to quality after school programs, because they provide a safe, friendly learning environment for our children that boosts their academic achievements, support working families by ensuring that their children are safe and productive after the regular school day ends, builds stronger communities by involving our students, parents, business leaders and adult volunteers in the lives of our young people and encourage families to become more effective partners in their children's education. Whereas after school providers in Travis County have provided significant leadership in the area of community involvement in the education and well-being of our youth. Further call on the citizens of Travis County on the day of October 9th, 2003, to assure that every child has access to a safe, friendly place where the lights are on after school. And I move approval.
