Number 4 is to approve proclamations celebrating the 20th annual national night out on August 5, 2003, that's today, sponsored by the Travis County sheriff's office and the national association of town watch. And we do have a proclamation. Should I read it? It reads: whereas the national association of town watch is sponsoring a unique nationwide crime and drug prevention program on August 5th, 2003 called national night out, whereas national night out is designed to, one, heighten crime awareness, two, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, three, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships and four, send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Whereas the 20th annual national night out provides a unique opportunity for Travis County to join forces with thousands of other communities around the world in promoting cooperative police and community crime and drug prevention efforts. Whereas the Travis County sheriff's office plays a vital role in establishing joint crime and drug prevens efforts in Travis County and is supporting national night out 2003 locally, whereas hopefully all citizens of Travis County will become aware of the importance of crime prevention programs and the impact that their individual and collective participation can have on reducing crime and drug abuse in Travis County, and whereas police community partnerships in neighborhood safety and awareness cooperation are important things of the national night out program. Now therefore be it resolved that we the members of the Travis County Commissioners court encourage all citizens of Travis County to join the Travis County sheriff's office and other local law enforcement agencies, local business sponsors and the national association of town watch in supporting the 20th annual national night out on August fifth, 2003. And I move approval.
>> second.
>> good morning.
>> morning. I would like to say that first of all, we appreciate the proclamation. For the past nine years, we have participated in the national night out. Last year we slipped to number two. This year we hope to make it bigger and better and take our number one place in the nation. So with all you guys' participation, I think we can accomplish this. And again, we appreciate your help. The other thing I ask is do you mind if we take a picture with the banner, national night out banner?
>> we would be honored to do so.
>> thank you so much.
>> I'm sure all of you are aware of the different locations of national night out in your precinct. Didn't you all participate before? But if you want to get any other -- if you want to expand the number that you go to this year, many of these folks will be glad to help you and let you know where some of these are occurring. And Commissioner, I'm sure i'll see you.
>> we keep crisscrossing.
>> i'll see each and every one of you hopefully.
>> did you say 7:30. Some are starting at 6:30. If you if you check your e-mail later today, you will see a postings of all events. You should eat get anffort and encourage all Travis County residents to join in.
>> thank you.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. And you want us down front for this for the tow opportunity? Photo opportunity. Be it ever politicians, we are of course reluctant to take pictures, except for special occasions.
