Item 5
Number 5 is a resolution -- approve resolution recognizing james washington on his retirement from the Travis County sheriff's office after 30 years of service to Travis County. And is mr. Washington here? Should I read the proclamation?
>> would you please?
>> it reads: whereas service, dedication and leadership should always be recognized and whereas james washington has spent the last 30 years in service to the residents and employees of Travis County through his performance and responsible positions within the Travis County sheriff's office, whereas he has dem straighted his commitment to service, his dedication to his duties and his loyalties to the citizens of Travis County as a deputy sheriff and corrections officer, whereas he has spent 30 years working in the correctional facility providing a safe, secure and humane environment to inmates incarcerated therein for many of those years james supervised the day-to-day operations of the Travis County jail food service preparing foods for more than 2,000 inmates each day and whereas he has decided to retire from county service. Now therefore be it resolved that the Travis County Commissioners court of the state of Texas gratefully recognizes the contributions of james washington through the citizens and employees of Travis County and wish him happiness and continuing good health as he enters his well earned retirement.
>> second.
>> move approval.
>> judge, I'm sitting in for sheriff frazier today, who had a prior commitment. And I know that she would rather be here with james. James has his brother and brother-in-law and his wife here with him today and some of the co-workers that he's had. James has been with us for 30 years and nobody has ever said anything bad about him that they could prove. [ laughter ] during his time he has served five sheriffs, dozens of supervisors, hundreds of co-workers and thousands of our guests in our facilities. And he's served them all well. And we want to always come and ask for a resolution on one of our employees, but james is truly a gem for our department and we're so proud of his service and wanted to have the opportunity to share this moment with y'all. [ applause ]
>> niz comments, -- any comments, mr. Washington? Anything you want to say during the last 30 years --
>> it's been my pleasure to have worked here and served here for as many years as I have. And chief bailey, he rubs me like that, but the fact of the matter is we've all made an attempt to make things run as smoothly as possible over the years, and it's been my pleasure to be here. Thank you very much.
>> thank you. Would your family members like to stand? Welcome to all of you. All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. Since we have you up here...
>> [inaudible - no mic]. [ laughter ] [ applause ]
