Item 3
Number 3 is to approve resolution recognizing reginald f. Harris. Is he here? On his retirement from the facilities management department after 18 years of service to Travis County. Should I read the proclamation? It reads whereas service, dedication and leadership should always be recognized, whereas reginald f. Harris has spent the last 18 years in service to the residents and employees of Travis County through his performance and responsible positions within the facilities management department, whereas reginald ultimately served as a custodial services supervisor responsible for performing and supervising the cleaning services for the granger building, Travis County courthouse and executive office building, whereas reginald has also served as a member of the Texas national guard with deployment to bosnia while employed by Travis County, whereas reginald has demonstrated his commitment to service, his dedication to duties and his leadership through the willingness to assume these responsibilities; whereas reginald's efforts have resulted in significant improvements to the appearance and cleanliness of the county buildings for employees and the public using these facilities and whereas reginald has decided to retire from the county's service, now therefore be it resolved that the Travis County Commissioners court of the state of Texas gratefully recognizes the contributions of reginald f. Harris to the citizens and employees of Travis County. We wish him happiness and continuing good health. As he enters his well earned retirement. I move approval.
>> second.
>> good morning.
>> good morning. I would like to say a couple of words. Reggie is a very hard worker and I will miss reggie's hard work. Reggie has over 18 years of service to Travis County. Originally hired as a custodian. After six months he moved to daytime and became a parking lot attendant to three years. Following his assignment, reggie moved to daytime custodian and helped with the burial at the cemetery. In 1992 he became the county furniture mover. For about 10 years reggie handled the movement of equipment to the purchasing warehouse for resale and the movement of -- (indiscernible). In January 2002, reggie promoted to his last motion as custodial service supervisor for the courthouse, granger building and also for the executive office building. Reggie also has remained involved with the military service throughout his employment with Travis County. He served six years with the army reserve and then approximately another 15 years with the Texas national guard. Reggie served as a one-year deployment into bosnia as part of taskforce eagle peacekeeping effort in 1998. Reggie has also been -- flood relief effort in houston and galveston and we're very proud of that. Reggie has decided to retire from the county and pursue his training in dog training and dog rescue, particularly german shepherd. We will surely ms. Reggie.
>> I would just like to say a word about reggie. He was on our health care benefits committee and he --
>> that's not why he's leaving now, is he? [ laughter ] he brought a very trawbl perspective -- valuable perspective. His attendance was very good at all those meetings. He attended in the lively debate. And as he said, represented the little man. But I think the truth is that reggie leaves some very big shoes to fill, and we really appreciate all his work, his candor as a committee member and his willingness to represent his folks in a roomful of a twers group of people -- diverse group of people and have his voice heard also, and that can be quite a chore within that group. So reggie, we want to thank you on behalf of the health care benefits committee and the employees of Travis County for your contributions. Good luck with the dogs, german shepherds.
>> reggie is on the way up now. You can have your say. [ laughter ]
>> ladies and gentlemen, it's been a learning experience in all aspects. I was glad to be able to watch the county grow I remember when ms. Sonleitner was a new anchor woman coming in trying to get a parking space. [ laughter ] and the rest of them I seen come in, I seen people go. I've seen people grow. I've seen families come in and grow. I've seen a lot of changes, and god bless you as the county keeps on growing, keep on doing as much as you can for us little people, big people, everybody of Travis County. And especially the employees. Never forget the employees because they are your backbone and they will carry you very, very far. And like I said, it's my time to step back and let some younger folks come on in and carry on the tradition. So thank you very much and god bless everybody.
>> thank you. [ applause ] .
>> we appreciate your hard work and dedication. Every time I try to move a chair I'm sure i'll remember you. [ laughter ] all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> thank you, reggie.
>> reggie, in addition to those -- the timely deliver of those retirement checks, we have this beautiful proclamation to give you. [ laughter ]
