Item 3
3. Approve proclamation recognizing leroy nellis as Austin independent school district's mentor of the year for 2003
>> judge, we are very pleased to let everybody know what happened with leroy. We have a number of special guests, we will give them a couple of seconds to get up to the table. They are guests from allen elementary school. We also have some folks in the audience from the planning and budget office, which is leroy's home office. Many of them are mentors as well. At allen elementary. Judge jeanne meurer is also here with our juvenile justice division and also I want to recognize lapita nellis, leroy's wife in the audience with us today. The proclamation reads as follows: whereas allen elementary school's mentor program in 2001 to 2002 was non-existent with the tireless efforts of leroy nellis they now have 20 mentors. Whereas leroy is in constant communication with the allen administration via e-mail or telephone updating them on the status of new mentors or helping to set up field trips to university of Texas for the entire first grade; and whereas leroy has been very consistent in his mentoring visits and was instrumental in establishing a mentor program that is making a great impact with the students involved and whereas his vision is for every student at allen to have a mentor and with his continued diligence and tireless efforts this will become a reality. And whereas leroy nellis is truly allen's mentor of the year, now therefore be it resolved that the Travis County Commissioners court commend leroy nellis for his dedication to the students of allen elementary school and congratulations him on being named aisd's mentor of the year.
