19. Approve contract award for surface aggregates 4 and 5, ifb# b030088-rv, to the qualified low bidders (countywide): a. Vulcan construction materials - primary contractor; b. Odeen hibbs trucking company - secondary contractor; and c. Shallow ford construction company - tertiary contractor. You heard my comment about c?
>> yes, sir. We hardly ever have to go to the third contractor. But we go ahead and contract just in case we have some sort of an emergency. By we hardly ever do go to the third contractor. And the -- the difference in the prices, about $2 per ton more expensive. But we hardly ever have to resort to that.
>> should I just ignore the estimated grand total amounts, 326,000, first, 333,000 second, $432,000 third? Those are estimated -- that would be if we bought all of our materials from that one contractor and we bought all that we estimated for the year, that's what we would spend.
>> right.
>> but if we -- if we went to the -- to the third contractor, in a particular situation, it would not be that amount. It would be $2 more a ton.
>> okay.
>> well, based on cyd's assurances that we are not going to goat to the third one anyway, I mover that we approve 19 a and b.
>> second.
>> which financially make all of the sense in the world to me. Let's just pray that we --
>> don't need to.
>> have our history of not going to the tertiary contractor. That was seconded by Commissioner Davis. Any more discussion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
