4. Approve proclamation designating the month of may 2003 as hispanic cultural awareness month in Travis County, and recognizing the seventeenth annual "cinco de mayo" celebration in Travis County and the 6th annual combined city/county cinco de mayo celebration.
>> thank you, judge. As members of the committee come up, I will wait until they arrive, these are county and city employees who have been working on this festivity for the 17th year. And so let me read the proclamation. Whereas 2003 marks the 141st anniversary of the battle of piewb although in which men and women led by general zaragosa from goal idea, Texas, successfully defended themselves against french troops. Whereas 17 years ago, Travis County began hosting a cinco de mayo celebration in order to keep alive the spirit of community that is signified by the battle of pueblo to recognize the men and women who fought as well as those who still work to ensure our freedom. Whereas this year's events marked the 7th annual combined city of Austin and Travis County celebration and is sponsored by many elected and appointed officials and department heads, both in Travis County and the city of Austin, along with the downtown Austin alliance and whereas Travis County will celebrate cinco de mayo at wooldridge park on Friday, may 2nd, that's because I think we party better on Fridays than Mondays. [laughter] so -- so from 11:00 a.m. To 2:30 p.m. On Friday, may 2nd, featuring mariachi, folklorico dancer and plenty of food booth and refreshments. Therefore be it proclaimed that the Travis County Commissioners court zoo here -- does here by recognize cinco de mayo. If you remember, we here by designate may as hispanic cultural awareness month in Travis County, Texas and encourage all citizens to participate in this month-long celebration of hispanic culture. And I would move approval.

To also thank the different county departments that take their time to -- you know, to support this event, too, because without them it wouldn't really happen. We try to see encourage everyone to come automatic and support these -- to come out and support these food booths and different departments that participate in it every year.
