22. Approve contract, contract modification, and making of contract for personnel carrier/work carts, for the transportation and natural resources department, ifb no. B03b0040-eh. And I got from one of the managers an explanation for why these little carts are necessary for the sheriff's office and I was told that this is the way for us to eliminate some of the vehicles that we historically have purchased. And I thought that was such a good move in the right direction that I wanted the whole court to hear the explanation, plus confirm that that in fact was the case. Major david balagia with the sheriff's office, that's correct, we eliminated three vehicles from our fleet which were up for replacement and -- and in addition saved about $7,000 in the purchase of the utility vehicles. We think they will be so successful that we will be able to further reduce our fleet in later years, but this is the test to see if that in fact can -- can occur. These are the carts that you will use on the del valle ground, basically, to get from building to building.
>> yes, sir. After phase 2, we close the complex to vehicles except for emergency and response type of vehicles of our own. There is no -- no civilian vehicles on the complex anymore for obvious security reasons. They would be used for a variety of different reasons, medical to take equipment from building to building, we would still have maintenance use them to transport tools and equipment to go to different areas. Each though it's an initial cost savings, we believe it will be --
>> half of them battery operated, half of them gasoline.
>> that's correct.
>> mr. Derry berry,.
>> I’m just here to answer your questions.
>> that's why I move approve.
>> let me ask a question. Why aren't those all electric.
>> we wanted to tie both because we haven't ever had these type of vehicles. We are going to use some out of the perimeter areas in long-time use. There's just not a lot of areas to literally plug them in, charge them back up, we wanted to have a mixture see what watch worked best we may go to all electric, all gas, depending on how they work out, Commissioner.
>> you know, this is one of those perfect things, this community goes crazy whenever you start a weed eater, I mean, you know, a leave blower, whatever. Leaf blower, whatever, not that this is going to probably get us any nearer attainment.
>> I think electric would be better than gas.
>> electric does have -- I agree, electric has some issues. But.
>> in addition to measuring ridability, we can also measure the gasoline or the energy costs.
>> wind power.
>> yeah [laughter] we can do that, look at it maybe a year from now. Move approval.
>> second.
>> any more discussion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> thank you all.
