Item 18
18. Consider request to increase fy 03 membership fee from the Austin - san antonio corridor council.
>> planning and budget came back and -- came by and told me that the fee had increased beyond what we budgeted. And during the budget process we budgeted$7,500 when it has been in the past. Our invoice was $10,000. I simply did not have the authority to increase that. I’m assuming this fee is based on population.
>> yes, sir.
>> the other news is that there's a $2,500 increase over last year and based on information provided travis there would be similar increases in the years to come. Another $2,500 next year, another $2,500 after that in '05. Historically, we would not -- we are not active in this group, we have become more active over the last probably 24 months, I guess at some point we have to decide whether -- whether it's -- it's of value to us. In this memo travis indicated where we can get the additional $2,500 should we choose to act on this favorably. And the --
>> that's for property tax judgments. So far this year, expendtures have been lower than anticipated, lower than last year's expenditure levels, so we believe there will be savings in that line item this year. That's why we use that particular one.
>> so if we approve this item, we ought to approve that -- the two sources, really, there is -- there is a little money -- at least that's my memo, two sources where we get --
>> in that lineup there is 40dz 4 worth of savings right now. We have just -- 2,096.
>> savings is the same I guess for unspent, uncommitted.
>> yes, sir.
>> okay.
>> well, judge, i'll go ahead and put it out there in terms of, you know, there's probably -- this council is probably more relevant now than I think at -- ever before. It has been a very strong advocate, not only on our infrastructure projects related to -- to shhh 130 and doing coordination, but now with the commuter rail district in terms of pulling people along the corridor. And in -- certainly our trails folks are working hand in hand with these folks. I just came back from washington d.c. With the chamber of commerce and the corridor council was a part of that. Again the message there was advocating on behalf of the corridor. So I was actually a little amazed that the dollar amount that we have been contributing to not only this group, but some of our other regional and state-wide efforts is a little low and I’m kind of anticipating that some of these things are going to have to be adjusted for inflation, et cetera. They have -- they have salaries and rentd and health insurance to pay like everything else.
>> we did get a plan which is a voluminous document. Did we also get a budget?
>> the five year plan includes their estimated budget but --
>> [inaudible] at? Point in the future. I took your statement that --
>> I would move approval that we.
>> second.
>> approve the membership fee increase, I appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
>> having identified source that's --
>> to go with the p.b.o. Recommended sweeps and savings on the interest line items.
>> any more discussion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
