6. Approve resolution recognizing the recipients of the Travis County senior indiscernible],.
>> judge, I’m ahead to read the proclamation as our recipients come forward. As I get to your names, if you could let us know which person you are that would be super.
>> whereas the Travis County senior service awards were created to acknowledge the success and achievements for volunteers for outstanding contributions to the community and whereas through their service to the community with the retired and senior volunteer program, also known as rsvp, the following individuals have placed the needs of others before their own. Whereas eileen and roger dalston are the recipients of the Travis County senior service award for their consistent, dedicated service to casa, the court appointed special advocates by serving as the voice of children in the court system. The dalstons have successfully supported 13 children through the sometimes challenging court hearings whereas he will non-canas is the recipient of the Travis County senior service award for her devoted and detailed work at the recording for the blind and dyslexic. Eleanor serves as a quality control volunteer checking the recordings for any errors. Her work ensures that all recordings are corrected and distributed to 100,000 students across the state. And whereas mary lou ledesma is the recipient of the Travis County senior service award through her volunteer service at rsvp. Marilou established arts and crafts classes for the elderly, an extraordinary advocate for the elderly. Whereas marlin weatherford, is she here this morning?
>> we will remember her.
>> > she is the recipient of the Travis County senior service award for her outstanding dedication and commitment to south Austin caregivers. She is a pillar of the agency sincerely interested in the welfare of the people of Austin. Whereas judith linfers is the recipient for her incredible educational efforts at the safe place charter school by developing a book place library. And whereas these individuals have earned the distinction of the Travis County senior service awards together with the contributions of the group of older adult volunteers they represent, distinguished themselves as resources to the community, now therefore be it resolved by the Travis County Commissioners court that we recognize the outstanding contributions of these individuals and we appreciate their service to the community and I would move approval.
>> second.
>> good morning.
>> any comments?
>> you all know how old at least that we are. [laughter]
>> 55.
>> or older. Approve I want to thank you for recognizing us as volunteers and for also supporting rsvp. We are very grateful. Thank you.
>> thank you.
>> thank you.
>> uh-huh.
>> we appreciate all that you do for us.
>> did I cut you off?
>> I appreciate the honor and rsvp or rsvp recording for the blinded and dyslexic was started, of course, to help provide audio materials for men who had lost their vision in world war ii so they can take advantage of the g.i. Bill. It has been going ever since. I also volunteer at the talking books program, which is under the state library in the archives building on the fourth floor. I do record a reader there. Thank you very much.
>> thank you. That's a great service.
>> all of these folks are going to be recognized tomorrow?
>> that's correct.
>> I would like to respond to the question that was asked about rsvp, how to get connected rsvp. When I retired from the university of Texas, I was looking for volunteer work. Where do you begin? So I’m -- I sort of flicking through the yellow pages, hoping that there would be something there. I’m trying to think of what might be names that I have heard of, capital area food bank. I've heard of that. Well, that's no way to get connected into volunteer work that might be rewarding for you. And I happened to bump into rsvp, just quite by chance as I was looking through the telephone directory and of course when I called them, then I got connected with people who were looking for people just like me. It's a way of not having to stab in the dark, but you can say, "here are the kinds of things I do, here are the kind of experience that's i've had, here are the kinds of interests that I have." And rsvp people will say to you, "here is a person and a phone number for you to call." That person was waiting for someone in my particular interests. So it's a particularly helpful way for people to take a spirit of volunteerism, the desire to do that, and to actually get together with -- with someone or some organization that is a good fit.
>> thank you.
>> well --
>> you know what you are -- that you are changing lives, in my view reaching out, helping other, really is probably one of the most rewarding things that you can do. I really appreciate the annual awards program. It really amazes me how many give so much, we are blessed in our community to have all of you. All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> thank you.
>> thank you.
>> maybe what we ought to do is hold on to this. Should we try to come up with one for all of the recipients.
>> each.
>> that would be great.
>> who --
>> [inaudible - no mic]
>> okay. Do it that way.
>> okay. Thanks to y'all.
>> thank you all.
