5. Approve resolution recognizing the Travis County retired and senior volunteer program (rsvp). It reads whereas one of our nation's most precious natural resources is the collective experience and abilities of our old ircitizens, whereas the retired and senior volunteer program promotes older adult volunteers, such as those in the area of health, education, social services, public safety, and environmental concerns. Whereas last year alone 1,137 rsvp volunteers contributed 234,744 volunteer hours of service, to 180 non-profit ages and oranges in Travis County. Whereas in 2002, the value of donated rsvp volunteer service amounted to $3,767,640; whereas rsvp offers opportunities for people 55 and old inventory actively participate in the life of their communities through significant and meaningful volunteer service; whereas through volunteerism, rsvp promotes an avenue to live a longer, healthier life; whereas the corporation for national service, national service, has acknowledged rsvp as a state leader in the areas of volunteer management and program development; and whereas this is the 31st year of the retire and senior volunteer program in Travis County. Now therefore be it resolved by the Travis County Commissioners court that we urge all citizens to focus on the achievements of the rsvp volunteers and to show appreciation for their service and I move approval.
>> second.
>> good morning.
>> good morning. Fred lugo, director of rsvp.
>> every time you read that I want to go wow, even though I’m director of the program. Donna pope on my right, rosy cortez on my left. I feel kind of strange it's the three of us up here representing the 1,137 volunteers who have done so much for our community. And every day it's truly an honor to see our folks in action and see the type of impact that they are having in Travis County. On behalf of rsvp, we just wanted to thank you all for supporting us.
>> thank you.
>> we are blessed -- now the rsvp luncheon is coming up.
>> tomorrow.
>> are you going to be there?
>> what is it?
>> are you going to be -- when is it?
>> tomorrow. [laughter] yes, we will see some of you there tomorrow.
>> I wouldn't miss it for the world.
>> let me ask you this question, because I think it's very significant, especially with the volunteer efforts from the folks. Is there any way possible that if anyone have a chance to look at this particular setting that -- this session that we are having this morning, may be interested in becoming a part of the team, your volunteer efforts, how would they do that? In other words, personally, I would like to volunteer, I would like to help out, how would they get that information?
>> I can let either one of them answer that, because they answer this every day.
>> thanks.
>> Commissioner Davis, I will come see you Thursday morning.
>> first off, when do you turn 55? [laughter] silence.
>> [inaudible] [laughter]
>> you are in with rsvp. That's retirement.
>> that's the first part of the -- [laughter]
>> the only part of it. Rosy will send you information. Any those of you that are not 55 we still can find volunteer placements because we work with over 200 non-profit agencies.
>> so they have -- do you have a certain number they can call.
>> 854-7787, 854-rsvp. There may be folks out there that really want to hook up with you and maybe didn't know how to do it. Thanks.
>> thank you.
>> is that a non-denial denial [laughter]
>> [inaudible]
>> [laughter]
>> thank you,.
