3. Approve resolution recognizing daniel clawson upon his retirement from transportation and natural resources after more than 25 years of service. -- 20 years of office [sic] commissioner daugherty?
>> I'm going to read this resolution, although I think that commissioner Sonleitner probably would enjoy giving this resolution to daniel, but I'm going to try to fill her shoes, that would be pretty tough to do. Welcome, daniel. Whereas daniel clawson has served Travis County for 26 years. He started his career with Travis County at the old burnet road location in the road office and performed road construction work for the constituents of Travis County. And whereas daniel worked his way up by developing his skills in multiple areas of the road construction field. As new employees came on board, he passed on his knowledge as well helping other employees develop their equipment skills and whereas daniel was promoted to supervisor in 1996 and supervised crews in chip seal operations county-wide as well as patching operations for the precinct 2 area. Numerous constituents knew to call him with their road concerns in the northwestern areas of Travis County. And whereas daniel is also the person to go when anybody needs to know the history of a northwest area road, he is our living history book for north of the river and west of the interstate. And whereas daniel's interests away from Travis County included great love of the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, the only thing that takes a back seat to these activities and his family and his grand babies which he refers to as my babies. And whereas daniel will be glad to know that in his retirement he will now fall into that classification he refers to as "the old timers" and all that implies. Daniel has been a dedicated and loyal employee of Travis County. We will miss him and his special way of telling a story. Now therefore be it resolved that we the Travis County commissioners court do hereby commend daniel clawson for his service to Travis County and our community. We thank daniel for his dedicated years of service and his high level of commitment on this 25th day of March, 2003. I so move.
>> second.
>> good morning.
>> good morning.
>> let's let don and joe go first, mr. Clawson so if you want to get back at them you will have the last say [inaudible]
>> again, I just want to thank daniel for his years of service. He became a manager for road and bridge under the current administration and I really am thankful for his management capabilities and I'm hoping that he will become the official fishing guide for t.n.r. After he retires.
>> i, too, want to thank daniel. As I said, as for previously with john, I'm losing a lot of skill, I'm losing a lot of history. You think about these two guys, we are losing 48 years experience and history just between two employees. That's valuable in our -- in our arena that we work in. As the proclamation says, these guys have a lot of history on these roads. They have got heel prints I call them on every one of these roads, they know it real well, also the constituents that we all represent. They know them firsthand because they are the ones that are out there I call it in the fire. They are out there face-to-face and each of these guys, especially daniel, they have done a good job in doing, representing Travis County. We are going to miss them greatly. Thank you.
>> thank you, mr. Wheeler. I just -- I would like to say thanks, also, for -- I know there's a lot of thank you here going on. But I really would like to say that I appreciate being able to serve the taxpayers of Travis County for all of these years. I've really enjoyed my work out there. And I appreciate the opportunity for being -- having the opportunity to be a supervisor over the road and bridge crews. And working with -- you know, each and every one in the higher offices. In don's offices, personnel, wherever. They are good people. You have got a bunch of good people working for you, very competent people. And I appreciate being able to work with them and thank you very much.
>> thank you.
>> [ applause ]
>> [inaudible]
>> I'm going to be in trouble now.
>> well, he has spent a lot of years and he's met a lot of good people, a lot of good friends, he has taken his job very seriously, I thank you also for letting him work these many years. Thank you.
>> thank you.
>> now that you are -- not a county employee, you can take your road complaints right to the top. [laughter]
>> best of luck to you.
>> thank you, sir.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> thanks very much. [ applause ]
