Item 2
2. Approve resolution recognizing john mendoza on his retirement from the transportation & natural resources department after twenty-three (23) years of service to Travis County. Commissioner Gomez?
>> I don't have it? Do I have the resolution.
>> actually, I have the original here.
>> okay. Everybody else who wants to come up to the table to be with john. Good morning.
>> good morning.
>> whereas john mendoza has been a devoted and diligent employee of Travis County for the past 23 years and whereas john has worked as truck driver in precinct 3 and as a heavy equipment operator serving road and maintenance in precinct 4 since governor aired was commissioner -- governor ann richards was commissioner richards. Whereas john will be remembered as looking like moses with a staff in his hands reciting the history of Travis County project by project, whereas john is a great story teller and many listened to his tales with rapt attention, some even believed those tales [laughter] whereas john often visits his orchard in the rio grande valley, but never brings back any fruit from the orchard to prove he has one [laughter], leaving co-workers to wonder if it exists. And whereas john is family oriented and always keeps his friends aware of family events. They will now expect him to return as often as possible to keep them aware of what's happening. Now therefore be it resolved that we the Travis County commissioners court do hereby thank john mendoza for his many years of service to the residents of Travis County and wish him a long and happy retirement. I would move approval.
>> second. [ applause ]
>> thank you.
>> well?

His skill level, his experience, we are fixing as always when I lose one of my long tenured employees, I lose a lot of history. These guys have been -- if you think about it, 23 years, john has been through several administrations. So he's seen a lot of changes. That's been helpful for me in the past. We are going to miss that experience. And his skill level as he goes on to future endeavors, thank you, john.
>> thank you.
>> thank you very much for everything that you have done.
>> john, any comments?
>> no. [laughter]
