Item 6
6. Approve resolution saluting the star of Texas fair and rodeo. Anybody here receive this one? All righty. Should I read the proclamation?
>> sure.
>> it reads whereas in 1938, Travis County extension agent r.h.roiter worked with the Austin, Texas chamber of commerce to organize the baby beef show, held at congress avenue, whereas in the 65 years since then that humble event has grown into the annual star of Texas fair and rodeo, a non-profit organization which hosts the 15-day event, educating the attendees and raising money for scholarships and programs for central Texas youth, whereas the star of Texas fair and rodeo ranks as central Texas' largest youth education fundraiser. Whereas the money raised -- the money is raised through the year-round efforts of 1800 volunteers, 8 full-time employees and the gracious giving of sponsors and partners,. The 15 day event includes 13 professional rodeo performances followed by musical events, musical entertainment. The fair grounds are host to a multitude of educational programs. Various live entertainment venues and the carnival of the livestock fair and rodeo programs provide central Texas youth an opportunity to show and auction their winning projects; whereas this year's rodeo plans to raise more than a million $ for 2,000 plus scholarships in central Texas, whereas the rodeo will be held as it is every year at the Travis County exposition center at 7311 decker lane. Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Travis County commissioners court salutes the rodeo and be it further resolved that all Travis County citizens are encouraged to visit the rodeo during its run from March 22nd through April 5th, 2003. I move approval.
