7. Approve proclamation recognizing the month of March as "national women's history month" in Travis County.
>> whereas March is designated as national women's history month by the presidential and congressional resolution, it is celebrated in thousands of schools, communities and workplaces across the nation. And whereas this historic celebration remind us of the importance of continuing to fill in the pages of our history that remain absent until the national effort to retell the stories of all women's lives. And whereas this year's theme, women pioneering the future, celebrates pioneering women from u.s. History whoorks led and won campaigns -- who led and won campaigns for quality and civil rights, advanced educational and professional profession opportunities and made contributions to the arts, sciences and humanistic causes, and whereas the 2000 theme also recognizes the pioneers of today, innovative women helping to pioneer new possibilities for generations to come, whereas the work of the women honored this year represents a wide range of occupations and accomplishments, women from different regional, educational, cultural, religious and economic background and whereas the stories of these women's lives inspire us with the knowledge that adversity can be overcome and a purposeful life can be the outcome. And whereas knowing these stories of great tenacity, courage, ongoing hope filled with words like "i can and I will" expand our own sense of self and knowledge of each other.
>> now therefore be it resolved that the Travis County commissioners court here by proper claims the month of March, 2003, as national women's history month in Travis County. And calls on all citizens to participate in the activities that will take place throughout Travis County. To learn about and honor the women of the history and our community.
