4. Approve resolution proclaiming Tuesday, February 4, 2003 as "seniors day" in Travis County.

>> there's no one that could read it better than you, your honor.
>> whereas Travis County seniors are served by the capital area on aging, and Travis County seniors contribute to its excellent service, through participation and volunteers, whereas Travis County the population of [inaudible] persons by almost 30% from 1990 to 2000, today approximately 3 million texans are at least 60 years of age and by a 2020 over 5 million senior citizens are projected. Whereas what's important is not the years in your life, but the life in your years, Travis County seniors and seniors throughout Texas have given decades of service to build the Texas of today and tomorrow; whereas -- whereas the master work [inaudible] in one of the most difficult cap terse in the great art of living, Texas seniors have been role models for millions of younger generations and have made Texas a leader in the education industry, agriculture, space score rages, information technology, literature, music, the arts and sports and whereas often at great risk to themselves, these seniors have defended our nation and state. So that democracy could thrive. They continue to instill cherished values in millions of children and reflect the ethnic of spiritual and cultural diversity of Texas and our common bonds, no therefore be it resolved that we the members of the Travis County commissioners court do here by proclaim, Tuesday, February 4th, 2003, as senior day in Travis County, and encourage all residents of Travis County to join us in giving recognition and thanks for the contributions of senior texans. I move approval.

If I might mention, today we have with us just a few of the people who serve seniors in Travis County, ertha cole operates the senior aids program here, seniors to -- continue gainful employment well into their 60s. Sharon is on the advisory council of the area agency on aging here, patricia bordey and rebecca lee program managers with the agency on aging here that serves Travis County, joyce luck with Austin groups for the elderly. All of us feel very honored every day as we serve the seniors with our area here in central Texas. Senior day on Tuesday, February 4th, begins at 10:30. This year on the program, in addition to senator care a,naishtat, chapa, zaffarini, they will also be on the program, attorney general greg abbott, the governor the honorable rick perry and coach daryl royal who like the longhorns have a few football championships in this area, he's very, very pleased at the wonderful program we have. It's a tribute to seniors here in Travis County, we are very grateful for the commissioners court to having adopted this resolution today.
