A 3 is next. That's an added item. And a 3 is to approve proclamation recognizing participants of the Texas legislative internship program for this session and we do have many members of the class of '03. All 31? Please come forward, if you will. Five of you can sit comfortably. And if the others would kind of huddle around those five, football huddle style. [ laughter ] easy right for you the class the '03 -- right now the class of 2003 would be very --
>> good morning.
>> good morning, the proclamation reads whereas senator rodney ellis has been a member of the Texas senate since 1990 representing the city of houston, harris, fort bend counties, whereas senator ellis established the Texas legislative internship program, shortly after joining the Texas senate to give higher education students an opportunity to become key public policy makers -- players in government; whereas since then the Texas legislative internship program has provided 175 young people with the opportunity to make a difference in their communities through -- through involvement in public service, whereas the program involves a competitive selection process that would produce the best and brightest students from colleges and universities from Texas, throughout the united states and even internationally -- international students? This is true. This proclamation -- [ laughter ] -- and brings them to Austin to work full-time as aides during the legislative session. And whereas a group of 31 interns are gathered in Austin to participate in the 78th Texas legislative session, now therefore be it resolved that we the members of the Travis County commissioners court extend an enthusiastic welcome to the Texas legislative internship program class of 2003 and their sponsor, senator rodney ellis and salutes them for their interest in public service and the legislative process. And earning a paycheck, of course that's not in the proclamation, but we recognize that, too. Be it further resolved that each member of the Texas legislative internship class of 2003 and senator ellis will receive a copy of this beautiful proclamation, as a token of the court's admiration and gratitude for their commitment and I move approval.
>> second.
>> welcome.
>> now, which two or three are bold enough to -- to make a statement before hundreds of thousands of people in tv land. [ laughter ]
>> initiative, go.
>> on behalf of --
>> > speak right into that mic if you would so they can hear you.
>> on behalf of the class of '03 of the Texas legislative internship program, I'm blair haley, I would like to thank the Travis County commissioners court for extending this warm welcome and this hospitality as we begin our journey for the next six months in attempting to assist in the 78th -- the 78th legislative session of the great state of Texas, thank you very much, we appreciate it.
>> thank you.
>> my name is joshua sams, on behalf of the program and senator rodney ellis, I would like to thank each member of the county commissioners court for opening your doors in your warm facility for us because we walked over from the capitol. I just wanted to thank you again for allowing most of us, all of us, to actually grab the reins of our dream, for many of us this is the lifetime opportunity we have been waiting for, we are one step closer. I just thank you and hopefully we can work together.
>> do what you can to help the legislature find that 9.9 bmdz shortage.
>> I was looking at the comptroller's estimate for now and it's through 2005, kind of looks a little shaky, but we are going to do something about that for you. [ laughter ]
>> well, we have no money to contribute. [ laughter ]
>> best of luck.
>> we do have a camera ready, I have been told that they would like to take a picture with us. All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
