Item A-1

A-1. Is to receive the filing with the county judge a petition for the incorporation of the village of webberville. And instruct staff to review the petition and all related attachments, consider issues and take any other appropriate action as we did for volente last week. On this petition we simply need to officially receive the petition, refer the matter to appropriate county staff, and ask county staff to -- to check this sunset commission and advise the court on December 17th, of whether there are issues of whether the law has been complied with in preparation for calling an election later on. Therefore I move that we officially receive the petition.
>> second.
>> and that we authorize appropriate staff to conduct an appropriate review of the submission and be prepared to let us put it on next Tuesday, whether there are issues or whether everything seems to comply with the law. Seconded by commissioner Davis. That's where we are. Anything that we need to hear today?
>> need to hear.
>> [inaudible - no mic] I have been working with staff, verification process. [inaudible]
>> all I heard so far is that the -- that the proposed incorporated area is of a -- of a unique configuration. Luckily, there's no -- [ laughter ] -- I guess some residential area, a little commercial.
>> I will agree that the map is not pretty. Fortunately for us the law doesn't require it to be pretty. It's tough to -- to draw a map that is less than two square miles as the law requires, but also pick up at least 201 people. That's what the committee volunteers did when they drew the map. There are some doughnut holes, narrow strips. Even though that sort of thing may be against the law when it comes to annexation, it's legal to do it when it comes through a corporation. Although again the survey would be nice, I wish we had a survey at the hospital. It's not required until after incorporation, because after the incorporation there's a taxing ents tee to pay for -- ents tee to pay for the plat. They delivered the county with a map that we think is less than two square miles, has the requisite number of inhabitants and of course also exceeds the number of petitioners.
>> move that it be back on the agenda for discussion with staff next year.
>> thank you.
>> thank you all very much.
>> all in favor of the motion? That passes by unanimous vote.
