My intention is to call up item 23, then to go to 18 since we have residents here, then go to the item covering number 19, the community justice center.
we've given those times to several individuals.
23 is to receive final report on Travis County combined charities campaign and thank those who made the campaign such a success.

>> thank you, judge.
good morning, judge, Commissioners.
it is a pleasure to be here on this item this morning and we will whiz through this as quickly as can in light of the court's schedule.
last year for Travis County combined charities, Travis County raised $204,891 which we were very proud of, especially since we were at the beginning of a very difficult recession.
this year, however, our goal is to raise $1 more.
and in that work to raise $1 more, we reached 237,005 of.
-- $237,056

>> [applause] and today we're here to thank the folks who took their extra effort make this work.
last year we had 764 employees who gave and worked in the campaign this year we upped it to 898 people.
we will not thanks, judge, individually those 898 people today but we will thank the ones who really, really invested a lot of time, energy and cash in this program.
so what I would like to do is start with the group of people who really made this happen and for the first group that we're going to thanks, what I would like to ask you to do is would you please stand in place, remain standing, let us thank you at the end of your group and then if you would proceed outside in the hallway, we have a recognition award for you.
so with that, let me begin with not in the order of the amount of time that you contributed but certainly the love in our hearts for the district judges.

>> please help me thank them.

>> [applause] at your leisure, there is a certificate waiting for you outside.
and now let me move to the next group of folks.
these are the folks who are going to receive certificates for an incredible amount of participation.
to the group who had a 100% participation at their office level, they receive the whole hearted award and would you please for this group, when I call your name out, you could please come up front and stand with the Commissioners: county judge Sam bisco and joel brown.

>> [introductions] also in this same category, departments who gave more than half of their people were involved in this project, planning and budget:

>> [introductions] and one last set of people that are going to come to join you, the lion-hearted award goes to the folks who gave lots of fun.
for facility management, their department gave $10,000!

>> [introductions] the county attorney's office gave $30,000.
the county clerk gave $13,000.
the district attorney gave $14,000.
p&r gave $22,000.
and for the biggest roar of them all for the lion-hearted roar, the sheriff greg hamilton and jose mathias gave $66,000!
please thank them.

>> [applause] we hope you enjoy your awards but we also hope you enjoy the love and gratitude of all the charities that you significantly help.
thank you very much.

>> [applause] and now for the sweetheart awards.
for the individuals who gave their creativity and talent to make raising money for these charities fun and effective.
for the art work and the website, we have a very special award and would the next two folks please come forward and allow us to give you you your g.
chris, please come forward in front of the court.
we have a special award for chris anglin.
ands will toss theand also for , david, please come forward.
he served as host for the event, thanking big don'ters, such as the sheriff, the big roar.
and here is, if we can get this on camera, here is a picture of the art work this year, the "have a heart," it shows the tin man and the yellow brick road.
so we have first for chris, we will give that to him later if he is not here today and for david, let's give david his award.

for the as you suspicious ortory exhibit cintilating wit, he hosted the library special event for the 2009 combined charities campaign and thank you and especially thank you for me.

>> [applause] for showing the most organized creative fund raising event and organizing the best talent show and the first talent show Travis County ever had, the prizewinner for this is denise carter.
how many of you loved the talent show?

>> [applause] please accept our gift.
for extra effort in getting communications out to employees, for sending public announcements and doing the website design.
to tina and tiffany, please come forward, we're thanking you for the employees i-give videos, that was a wonderful piece of work.
and for the talent show videos, juan and dale directed and filmed all of those wonderful lin vignettes.
thank you very much.
let's recognize them.

>> [applause] and now for the heart of gold awards.
for the lbj event, jenny ballard, for outstanding performance in putting together the special lbj event.
for the silent auction, teresa goss, thank you for putting that together for us.
for organizing the spectacular employee softball turnment to benefit combined charities, vera rodriguez with t&r, for putting together the fall festival, absolutely a fun time, we raised a ton of money, jose and kaline, please come forward.
for doing all of the money collection for us and organizing that, keeping everything clear and accurate, rhonda ambrose does a great job every year.
thank you, rhonda.
to john hilly for making certain all our legal ts were crossed and our is were dotted for or charities, john hilly, thank you very much.

>> [applause] and for the most energetic and supportive department in support of campaign 2009 combined charities, joe harlow, you had the most supportive department and we really appreciate your help.
would you please come forward.

they kept our pepper growing.
for the fall festival, ron, who was our wonderful emcee, thanks to ron.
debra gallaway with our honor guard.
thank you for the beautiful honor guard.
kimberly ort who sang that beautiful anthem.
she did absolutely fabulously.
denise carter organized part of that committee.
pedro was our fabulous dejay, he is not here but he was more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
hector, kimberly, alice, sydney, and carol for "thriller." thank you for their work on the fall festival.

>> [applause] and for doing the money collection part, always important in fund raising, special thanks to deloris, susan and charles.
we couldn't do it without you.

>> [applause] for county clerk organizational support, support to our office for working this, brenda, thank you.
the printing of the campaign book of donors and all of this information, terry of aus-tex printing.
they did a good job for us.
our fiscal agent, so important to us, very, very helpful whenever we had a question, always right there for us, mary ramsay of the Austin community foundation.
the smart phone donors for incentive gifts, Karen morris, at&t, and susan clark from verizon.
the lbj event volunteers, among others.
from the lbj library, the president and the staff who personally welcomed all of the donors from Travis County, mark, tina and judy.
we thank the lbj library for their support.
and the special event sponsors who helped pay for the event that honored our really helpful donors, roy of mitten, burster, foster and collins.
Karen Huber, Travis County Commissioner and our county judge, Sam bisco.
and then finally, what I would like to do, is have one more certificate in honor of a very special person who came to my rescue more than once, he was there when I needed him all the way who bravely allowed us to go places in this campaign where we had not gone before, bravely allowed us to raise money beyond our previous expectations, for the trust and daring he showed by giving the Travis County clerk's office the privilege of chairing the 2008 and 2009 Travis County combined charities campaign and the encouragement and support he offered during these efforts, thank you for allowing us to participate in the most wonderful and rewarding opportunities opportunities in county government, being able to witness first hand the kindness, generosity and compassion of thousands of county employees as forever filled our hearts with love and hope, this special heart and soul award goes to the honorable Sam bisco.

>> if I could just ask a question.
years ago, we had a little $10 privately sponsored gift certificate, especially in the category I won a few minutes ago.
we ought to return that.

>> these are privately sponsored and we do have help from the community, I would like to say, so we're not far of a of that, sam.

>> thank you.

>> you mentioned it is a retirement speech, unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to serve as chair and still serve as your county clerk this next year so I regret I have to step down.
i can't do both for this next year.
so I'm calling on county govern tom step up, let's find a new chair or a pair of chairs to keep the money coming in to these charities.
that you know, they need, we've proven we've got our set up ready to go for the next chair.
it is in place, we have people who will help you.
so how about it?
maybe rosemary and jason, maybe nelda and dusty.
dusty has that one be last had a hurrah before you leave us.
how about roger and jim, they are incredibly talented and creative.
how about them coming in and doing a year or two or combined charities.
at any rate, I would like permission, judge, to do a broadcast e-mail with that voice of yours asking for a new chair so we make sure everybody knows we're now without a chair and we need to have a new one and we certainly stand ready to help the new pair or single chair, which ever.
once again, it has been our honor and pleasure to serve.

>> she was able to raise more money than ever two years in a row.
let me just announce for Travis County employees that the commission's court will receive applications for chair and co-chair, beginning noon today.
so is that is?

she and her folk did a fantastic job of getting 800-plus county employees involved, more employees than every.

>> yeah.
and that happened during an economic downturn which makes it even more spectacular.

>> it was a very good year for our charities and many of our own county employees and even they gave, it was one of the most heart-warming things I've ever ban part of.
