Travis County Commissioners Court
November 18, 2008
Item 2
2. Consider and take appropriate action on an order prohibiting outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Travis County.
>> we will come back to consent items. Is mr. Baldwin nearby?
>> good morning, judge, Commissioners, pete baldwin Travis County emergency management coordinator. Our existing outdoor burning ban will expire tomorrow. We have not had any significant rain. We are recommending that we go ahead and implement a new outdoor burning ban for the next 30 days, we will be watching weather and hoping that we get some of that rain. We are in such a deficit now, I think our wildfire awareness has been heightened by what's been going on in california with those. Of course they have santa anna winds, we do not. But we still have the same dry condition right now. It is our recommendation from the fire marshal's office and we just met with all of our chiefs yesterday, they -- they all support putting a new burn ban in place.
>> move that we follow staff's recommendation and renew the outdoor -- the ban against outdoor burning.
>> second.
>> discussion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. Thank you.
>> thank you, sir. Do we have an order already?
>> yes.
>> okay.
>> do you want to hear --
>> fine, thank you.
