Executive Session

>> 46, receive briefing from county attorney and take appropriate action regarding issues related to contract between Travis County and Austin-Travis County livestock show and claims resulting from the 2008 star of Texas fair and rodeo. This is under the consultation with attorney exception to the open meetings act. Just as a reminder to staff, we do need the executive session conference room set up for our work in just a few minutes. 47, receive briefing from county attorney and take appropriate action regarding settlement offer in valdez/nautilus case, consultation with attorney exception. 48, receive briefing from county attorney and take appropriate action concerning the extension of administrative leave with pay for human resources employee slot number 2. Consultation with attorney and personnel matters exceptions to the open meetings act. We will discuss these three items in executive session but will return to open court before taking any action.
>> > we have returned from executive session. We did not discuss 47. We will have 47 back on the agenda next week for consideration. We did discuss 46, however, and that's the matter involving a claim resulting from the 2008 star of Texas fair and rodeo. I move that we communicate to the office of Travis County livestock board that the county's position is that we should settle this for the sum of $100,000. And that we should give ourselves an opportunity to discuss four outstanding issues which will require additional time, probably two to three months, in that we think that short-term cash claim should be separated from the other issues that we need to discuss.

>> that we authorize an appropriate letter be directed to the executive director of the association as soon as possible. Seconded by Commissioner Davis. Discussion? All in favor? Show Commissioners Davis, Gomez and yours truly voting in favor. Commissioner eckhardt voting against. 48 is the matter involving administrative leave with pay for the employee in slot number 2. I move that we authorize an additional two weeks which will be up to and including September 23rd, 2008, administrative leave with pay.
