Number 8 consider and take appropriate action on recommendations from governor's division of emergency management regarding possible assistance for damage sustained on Friday, March 25, 2005. Damage sustained by various residents in Travis County.
>> yes, sir. Pete baldwin, Travis County emergency management coordinator. As we have stated in the past, the uninsured loss was not sufficient enough to warrant any kind of federal assistance, so we have turned to our central Texas voad, volunteer organizations assisting in disaster. It is a fairly large group and very active in the community. We have met earlier last week and made sure that we were resurveying the areas to make sure that we aren't missing any unmet needs. In the memo I distributed late yesterday afternoon, I apologize, we were trying to get the latest information that we could, there were approximately 21 cases still open in the hudson bend area, they have two active cases in the littig area, they are going back out and resurveying the littig area with the assistance of the pastor of the baptist church out there and some other residents to make sewer that we haven't missed anything. Our next step is to put these people into what we call our unmet need or long-term needs. And that way each of these organizations have -- bring different skill sets to the table. Some have funds that they can give outright. Others have labor pools, others have donations. So we are trying to match those needs with the organizations that can assist them. So that is where we are right now. The -- the long-term needs committee will meet again on may 5th, I believe it is, to make sure that we have everything covered in there.
>> so the 21 cases in hudson bend and two in littig are the ones that seem to be eligible for assistance?
>> those are the active cases right now. Some of those, it may be anything from -- from providing some plywood to cover a window to providing bedding in -- in some instances they have paid or assisted with rent. So they could move to another facility. There are just very -- varied ways that they have been assisting these folks. So at this time we have a total of 23 active cases.
>> is there a deadline to apply for assistance?
>> there is none. Since tease are -- there's no federal funds, no state funds involved. These are central Texas volunteer agencies.
>> but they would be -- it would be expected to tie your need to damage sustained on March 25th, 2005?
>> that's what we are primarily looking at, however these -- these organizations help people on a day-to-day basis for -- for a very -- variable reasons. Discussion? Thank you very much for the update.
>> thank you.
