Travis County Commissioners Court
April 12, 2005
Item 4
4. Approve proclamation recognizing the week of April 10 through April 16, 2005 as "national crime victims' rights week" in Travis County. And should I read the resolution? Okay. If I all have a seat there, get real comfortable. It reads: whereas national crime victims rights week provides a national opportunity to reflect on the devastating impact of crime on victims and our entire nation; and to strengthen our national and local resolve to ensure the victims needs are identified and addressed so that the homes in our community are safer and healthier; whereas the county of travis as individuals and communities recognize that justice isn't served until victims are; that crime and violence in our county affects us all, and that victims rights are a critical component of justice for all. Whereas the county of travis believes that justice isn't served until all crime victims and those hurt by crime, animals, children, elderly, people with disabilities, other mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, sisters and brothers, neighbors an friends, are provided support and assistance in the after math of victimization. Whereas the county of travis is committed to addressing the overlap of animal mall treatment, child abuse and neglect and the domestic violence through policies and ordinances contained and consequences to offenders for committing those crimes. Whereas the county of travis looks to ensure that all crime victims and survivors are treated with dignity and respect, recognized as key participants within our system of justice and afforded services that provide health and hope to them and whereas the county of travis joins other counties, cities and communities across the nation to recognize the needs and rights of crime victims and survivors during national crime victims rights week, each April, now therefore be it resolved that we the Travis County Commissioners court proclaim April 10 through April 16th, 2005, as national crime victims rights week in the county of travis and commend this observance to all our citizens and I move approval.
